By this point in your profile surfing, I'm guessing they're all starting to sound the same. I hope you find me a little different as a therapist. In fact, I've been told I'm not very "therapist-y." Sure, I've taken some classes, read some books, and gotten some degrees, but all of that only makes me an expert in what works for me. You are the boss of you. You are the expert in your life. My role, as I see it, is to help you explore options and potential solutions and find what works for you. That's the only way change will last.
I believe that a solid therapeutic relationship is more important than any particular treatment approach in producing the best results in therapy. All you have to do is show up, be honest, be open and we'll figure it out together from there.
Try to fix you.
Give you advice.
Tell you what to do.
Pretend I know more about you than you do.
Assume what is best for you.
Have all the answers.
Make all the hard stuff go away.
Remind you that you aren't broken.
Give you room to access your own wisdom.
Support you in figuring out what to do.
Recognize that you are the expert on your own life.
Remember that only you know what is best for you.
Honor that I don't know it all.
Collaborate with you on how to make the hard stuff easier to sit with.

ART incorporates a combination of techniques used in many other traditional psychotherapies. ART works directly to reprogram the way in which distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions. ART accomplishes this through the use of rapid eye movements similar to eye movements that occur during dreaming. Although techniques similar to these are used in other types of therapies. ART’s very specific and directive approach can achieve rapid recovery from symptoms and reactions that may have been present for many years. ART combines long-respected, sound treatment practices with safe and effective methods validated by current scientific research studies conducted by the University of South Florida.
Everyday, an old man walked the beach with a pail, picking up starfish that had been washed in by the tide, and throwing them back into the sea.
One day, a young boy stopped the old man and asked, "Why do you throw the starfish back? There must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish. It won't make a difference."
The old man picked up a starfish out of his pail and threw it as far as he could into the sea and replied, "It made a difference to that one."
